BRICS Export Surge: Indonesia FTA Cuts Tariffs, Boosts Russian Exports
The Eurasian Economic Union and Indonesia have finalized a free trade agreement that eliminates tariffs, creating annual savings of up to $36.2 million for Russian exports. Signed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk, the deal benefits 99% of Russia's current exports to Indonesia, strengthening trade ties with Southeast Asia's fourth-largest economy.
Negotiations began in December 2022, culminating in a pact that reduces Indonesia's average tariff on Russian goods from 8% to 3.2%. Bilateral trade has grown 1.3 times over five years, with a 15% year-over-year increase recorded from January to October this year.
